Day One: What Actually Happens
The first day of a renovation can feel overwhelming. But when you know what to expect, it’s much less stressful. Here’s a typical Day One for a kitchen or bathroom renovation with RenovaHaus.
Before the Crew Arrives
Your project manager will have already:
- Walked you through the full project timeline
- Confirmed material deliveries and staging areas
- Set up dust barriers and floor protection
- Established a designated entry path for the crew
- Reviewed house rules (shoes off, bathroom access, parking, pets, etc.)
Morning: Setup (7:00 – 8:00 AM)
The crew arrives at the scheduled time (we don’t show up unannounced). First hour is setup:
- Dust containment — plastic sheeting and zip walls to seal off the work area from the rest of your home
- Floor protection — heavy-duty paper or plastic runners on paths between the work area and the exit
- Tool staging — tools and equipment brought in and organized
- Dumpster placement — if demo is happening, the dumpster is already in position
Mid-Morning: Demo Begins (8:00 – 12:00 PM)
For renovation projects, Day One usually means demolition:
- Cabinets, countertops, and fixtures removed (kitchen)
- Tile, vanity, and shower removed (bathroom)
- Debris hauled to dumpster throughout the day
- Underlying conditions assessed — this is when we see what’s behind the walls
Surprises Happen — and That’s OK
About 30% of projects reveal something unexpected on demo day — water damage, outdated wiring, subfloor issues. If we find something, your project manager will:
- Document it with photos
- Explain what we found and what it means
- Provide options and costs
- Get your written approval before proceeding
No surprise charges. No work without your say-so.
Afternoon: Cleanup (3:00 – 4:30 PM)
Every day ends with cleanup:
- Debris removed from your home
- Work area swept and organized
- Dust barriers checked and resealed
- Common areas cleaned
- Your project manager gives you a quick end-of-day update
What About Noise and Dust?
Let’s be honest:
- Demo day is noisy. If you can be out of the house for a few hours, it’s more comfortable. But you’re welcome to stay.
- Dust happens. Our containment measures minimize it significantly, but you may notice a fine layer. We clean daily.
- It looks worse before it looks better. A gutted kitchen or bathroom is jarring. Trust the process — it’s temporary.
Your Role on Day One
You don’t need to do much:
- Be available by phone in case decisions come up
- Keep pets in a safe, separate area
- Point out anything fragile or valuable near the work zone
- Ask questions — your project manager is there for you
It Gets Better Fast
Day One is the most disruptive day. By Day Two, the crew has a rhythm, the demo is done, and you’ll start seeing the new space take shape.
