Bathroom Renovation Timeline: What to Expect Week by Week

How Long Does a Bathroom Renovation Actually Take?

One of the biggest sources of anxiety for homeowners is not knowing what to expect during a renovation. Here’s a realistic week-by-week breakdown of a typical master bathroom renovation in Fort Lauderdale.

Before Construction: 2–3 Weeks

Design & Planning (Week 1–2)

This is where the magic starts. Your project manager will:

  • Measure your space and assess plumbing/electrical
  • Review your wishlist and budget
  • Create a design plan with material selections
  • Produce layout drawings for your approval

Permitting & Material Orders (Week 2–3)

While we submit permits to Broward County (typically 5–10 business days), we order your tile, fixtures, vanity, and other materials so everything arrives on time.

During Construction: 2–4 Weeks

Week 1: Demolition & Rough-In

  • Remove old fixtures, tile, and vanity
  • Address any hidden issues (water damage, outdated plumbing)
  • Rough-in new plumbing and electrical per the approved plan
  • Install waterproofing membrane in shower/tub areas

Week 2: Tile & Shower Installation

  • Set floor and wall tile
  • Build custom shower features (niches, benches, curbs)
  • Install shower glass enclosure (if frameless, this may come later)
  • Grout and seal all tile work

Week 3: Fixtures & Finishing

  • Install vanity and countertop
  • Mount fixtures: faucets, showerhead, towel bars, accessories
  • Install lighting and exhaust fan
  • Paint walls and trim
  • Install mirror and final details

Week 4: Final Touches (if needed)

  • Frameless glass installation (requires cured tile)
  • Touch-ups and detail work
  • Final plumbing and electrical inspections
  • Professional cleaning

After Construction: Final Walkthrough

We walk through every detail with you — grout lines, fixture operation, door alignment, caulking. If anything isn’t perfect, we address it before handoff.

Tips to Keep Your Project on Track

  1. Make decisions early — material changes mid-project are the #1 cause of delays
  2. Budget 10–15% contingency — older Fort Lauderdale homes sometimes have surprises behind the walls
  3. Plan for one bathroom to be offline — if you have two bathrooms, you’ll always have one available
